Did you know about the impersonal use of the pronoun “se”?

“Se” is the pronoun with the most grammar applications in Spanish. We use it to express:

✔ Reflexive verbs.
✔ Reciprocal verbs.
✔ Pronominal verbs.
✔ Indirect objects.
✔ Involuntariness.
✔ Intensifier.
✔ Reflex passive.
✔ Impersonal.

In impersonal sentences, the “se” detracts from the semantic and grammatical importance of the subject and thus gives the sentence an impersonal character.

Examples:

Esta semana SE comparte en familia.
SE recomienda hacer ejercicios 3 veces por semana.
Aquí SE habla español.
